Good Life Birth Place celebrates first delivery
Proud parents Jackson and Shelbi Hackbart delivered their daughter Elianah at Good Life Birth Place on Nov. 28. This was the first baby born at Nebraska’s only free standing birth center in Lincoln at 80th & O Street.
The couple says they chose Good Life Birth Place because of the comfortable atmosphere it provides and their desire to have a natural birth from the beginning. That’s where Karen McGivney-Liechti, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) came in and helped them to have this amazing experience. “This environment is intended to be different. Quiet and home-like,” said McGivney-Liechti.
"That's probably what the most important factor was for me," said Jackson Hackbart. Shelbi added, " I didn't feel like I was coming into an overwhelmingly stimulating medical environment."
“In order to deliver here, the mother has to be highly motivated,” McGivney-Liechti said. This birth center is actually a more labor-intensive approach for expectant moms. Requirements include completing several education classes. A monthly Centering Pregnancy program is an option for all moms, and has been shown to decrease the incidence of premature birth, low birth weight and increase breast feeding satisfaction.
It’s thorough, as is the midwifery approach to well-woman care. “Midwife literally means ‘with women,’” McGivney-Liechti said. “We journey with women for a lifetime.”
The couple shared that they loved their experience, and if they were to have another child the Good Life Birth Place would be their first choice.
